I know Bobby some, and he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, in or out of the game. Tells a funny story about how he hit a hot streak in Spring training and started getting attention. He called his wife and said (something to the effect), “I might be in trouble. These guys really think I can hit like this.” He doesn’t hold any resentment for how he got handled by George. He’s thrilled to be back in pinstripes. Always considered himself a Yankee. Never “Big Leagues” acquaintances. Low key, but a guy that will earn credibility with players, both young and old. Says a lot about Girardi that he surrounds himself with first class guys like Bobby. Perfect guy to have around young players. If you knew him, you’d like him.
