You don't want Trump running the Yanks any more than you want Dolan.

First, Trump is leveraged out his behind so he may not actually have the liquidity required to buy the Yanks (given how strict sports leagues are about having the right mix of cash and balance sheet assets to buy vs. finance a team purchase).
__

I don't know anything about his financial situation, but the reason I said I wouldn't mind Trump is that he is probably smart enough to let talented baseball do their job without interference. That's the critical test, imo, since the franchise is a cash cow.

What the hell is with the love for John Henry. He's a friggin prick.

Yea Steinbrenner has been both great and horrible. The Yankees were a joke when he purchased them and BAM success through to the 80s where he pretty much was banned from the game and the team went to crap again then he was back and we won 4 championships...4! Yea we haven't won since 2000 but we're easily the reason baseball is still afloat after the strike and the reason half the teams are able to pay for players that cost more than BEAR STERNS.

Now I have no problem if the Steinbrenner's want to sell, I just hope to God Dan Snyder doesn't buy them. Only Dan Snyder could buy hell and screw it up.... Or Jerry Jones (I'm a Redskins fan)

That, and Henry is best of buds with the commissioner of baseball. That certainly has its perks.

Second, his claim to fame as a sports owner was pursuing the retarded USFL lawsuit against the NFL when USFL owners were offered a perfectly reasonable settlement. You want a principled stand based on hubris or you want rational management with ruthless efficiency? Trump's too pompous to make the smart move every time.

Finally, after having Steinbrenner and his horrible son, I wouldn't mind having an owner that isn't as fond of the limelight, the press, and blatant self-promotion. Trump is a total jackass. I don't want that kind of guy front and center. Give me John Henry any day of the week. He's smart, he's loaded, and he doesn't need the cameras taking his picture.

I do think the word "plan" is a weasel word, but Trump would be OK. The problem would be the Dolans, because the son is an idiot, who would be selling pencils on the subway if his father hadn't been born before him.
