  • Canseco: I Have ‘Ace In The Hole” & A-Rod Knows It

It’s been a week since fans learned of Canseco’s claims that he introduced A-Rod to a steroid dealer, and that the third baseman returned the favor by trying to sleep with Canseco’s then-wife. Canseco is still reveling in the discomfort he’s caused Rodriguez. Every awkward “no comment” from A-Rod gives Canseco great glee.

The best part, Canseco says in an exclusive interview at the Omni Berkshire in midtown, is that Rodriguez can’t do anything about it. If A-Rod threatens to sue Canseco or goes on “60 Minutes” to attack his credibility, Canseco will respond with “Max,” the Canadian steroid dealer he claims to have hooked A-Rod up with in the late 1990s. If Canseco is sued or attacked, Max – up to this point simply known as an unidentified steroids supplier – will go public with everything he knows about A-Rod, says Canseco. This, Canseco adds, is not a war that A-Rod can win.

“I’ve got the ace in the hole,” Canseco says with a laugh. “And he knows it. So there’s no way that he’s going to fight me. He’s trying to make it go away.”

Clever move here by Canseco. Now, Alex is in that tough spot of having to deal with the question of “Why won’t you sue or go after Jose for what he’s said about you?” Canseco, like the good book seller, is doing his best to make sure this story doesn’t go away. And, for now, he’s winning that battle. At some point, A-Rod is going to have to back off the “no comment” stance and go back at Jose…or else Canseco will keep beating on this drum. If not, now, it looks like A-Rod is concerned about “Max” – thanks to this latest play by Canseco.

Actually, I see it another way. Why wouldn’t “Max” just run an end-around and sell his story about A-Rod? Why would he wait in the wings under Canseco’s thumb when, if true, Max’s story is more credible than Canseco’s innuendo and second-hand version of the events?

If “Max” is out there and has the goods on A-Rod, he’s a dope for not capitalizing on this now, while the story is interesting.

A-Rod really isn’t in a tough position. All he has to say is ‘no comment’ and continue to ignore the pathetic gnat that is Jose Canseco.

Canseco’s acting like a desperate man, and he’s making himself to be more and more of a joke to those who can actually see him for who he is. I just wish you could do the same, Steve.

Anyone with a working brain knows that if Canseco had anything on A-Rod it would have been in his first book.

The man is delusional, and may be showing signs of a psychotic break.

The only thing Canseco has is vilely tanned and greasy skin.

Why not save it for a second book? No sense in unloading everything all at once

Because its inclusion would have likely assured that there would be a second book, something that was not foreseeable when the first book was published.

Of course, the original ghost writer opted out of the second book because he believed that Canseco’s allegations against A-Rod weren’t credible:

      http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba…seco_book.html

“I’m passing,” Yaeger told the Daily News. “I had a chance to review the Jose Canseco (material) that he provided me. I don’t think there’s a book there. I don’t know what they’re going to do. I don’t think he’s got what he claims to have, certainly doesn’t have what he claims to have on A-Rod.

“There’s no meat on the bones.”

If I were A-Rod, I would simply say something like?

“Jose Canseco doesn’t like me anymore? Gee, that’s a shame. What about the steroids guy he introduced me to? I don’t remember, he might have. When we were friends, he introduced to a bunch of guys he knew. And that’s all I have to say about this matter, on this, or any other occasion.”

Now, if “Max” or “Min” or “Meany” or “Moe” comes forward, and says, “Yes, Jose introduced A-Rod to me, AND I SOLD A-ROD STEROIDS, AND HERE’S MY PROOF” then this story has legs. But if no such person ever comes forward, for whatever reason, then the story dies, no matter how many time Canseco performs CPR on it.

I doubt it was “not foreseeable.” He named names in the first one, I’m sure he anticipated a second book which would’ve named more names.
