It all depends on where Hal stands, and the last public indication we had is that he is in lock step with Cashman.

I’m very perplexed with the whole Hank vs Cashman mess.Didn’t Boston have the better offer according to the Twins?For the Yankees to get Santanna not only would they would have to give up a gaggle of players they would have had to shell out 125 million dollars!So then the Yanks would be in a similar situation where the Mets have absolutely NO TRADE FLEXIBILTY!The Mets have no more chips AT ALL!Yeah,I know that money comes off the payroll next year BUT the payroll would have been 231 million and prorated over 300 million!?That’s insane.THEN the fourth and fifth starters would have been Mussina AND Igawa.WOW!That looks like a contending team NOT!

I don’t think Cashman wants to come back,it’s kinda obvious from his attitude!So far the Youth movement hasn’t worked BUT the season isn’t over yet…..let’s see if Santanna makes the whole season and if the kids can give them something.Anyway,it looks like Cashman will leave and then Hank can chew out Oppenheimer or whomever wants to be a Steinbrenner pinata!

I agree, we can’t assume anything. But I can also see Steve’s point here. It doesn’t help the team if Cashman is perceived as “talking back” to HankenStein, even if everything is peachy behind the scenes.

baileywalk – IF Cash had called Hank, etc., then, clearly, when asked for a comment he would have said “This is an internal matter that Hank and I have discussed today and we prefer to keep it an internal matter.” Right? But, he didn’t say that – so, we have to assume that he never called him.

Looks like he’s already pitching like Jamie Moyer to me, only there’s two problems for Mussina: one: he’s in the AL and not the NL, and two: Jamie Moyer sucks now

Alternatively, Hal may have called Cash and said: “Would you please make a public statement that splashes the cold water of reality on my brother’s impetuous face?”

How do you know that the first thing Cashman did wasn’t pick up the phone and say, “Hank, wtf? Why are you bringing up Joba in the rotation right now?”

All we have is a someone calling Cashman and him giving them a quote.

What we read in the newspapers is about 1 percent of what actually goes on.

Basically Hank’s mouth put Cashman in the position to have to play damage control again. This will be a two-day (minimum) story on ESPN.
