Rasner threw in the low '90s when he was drafted.

I believe pitching coach Rafael Chavez, actually encouraged Rasner to throw a cutter to keep hitters from sitting on his curveball. That's supposedly the reasoning behind his sudden rejuvination.

Well, first off, Ohlendorf hasn't struggled (one bad inning, etc.).

Okay. I'm a big Rasner fan. I think this guy might even be a legit number five in the big leagues. But it's amazing how there's this clamor for his callup. Kennedy is better than Rasner. If you put Kennedy in AAA right now, he'd probably be putting up the same numbers (maybe not an ERA that low, but I'm sure that ERA will adjust soon and SOME of it has to do with luck). So what's the point? Rasner isn't going to come here and have a sub-1 ERA because that's not who he is.

It's pretty sad that after all these years of begging and pleading and whining for young pitchers, now that the NY media and fans have them, all they can do is scream that they have to be replaced. It's too bad Phil and Kennedy each had a disastrous apperance apiece that has driven their ERAs into the stratosphere. People are unduly obsessed with it.

If Phil and Kennedy make it, then they should get extra credit for doing it in the absurd environment of New York.
