Except McNamee’s lawyers didn’t initiate the civil suit, Clemens did. Similarly, Clemens is the one who offered more inconsistent statements in his Congressional testimony than a politician on speed.

Given Pettitte’s testimony that Clemens told him that he did PEDs, only to later deny it when Pettitte asked him about it a few years later, claiming that he had said that his wife had done them, but not himself, I think Clemens brought this on himself. He would have been much better off admitting that he used PEDs for a short time to help him recover from an injury, similar to Pettitte’s explanation. If he had done that, everyone would have moved on.

As for Clemens’s wealth, I think that is the primary reason that he did PEDs. He probably resented that his career was on the decline at a time when MLB salary inflation was enabling inferior pitchers to make far more money than he ever did, so he decided to use PEDs to extend his career.

Clemens is reaping what he has sowed.

Clemens’s credibility is so low at this point that I can’t give him the benefit of the doubt on anything.

That’s the worst part about it. There’s a good chance that he did nothing wrong in one instance or another but his reputation is so tarnished that he’ll be found guilty of the torture of prisoners in CIA jails if we just try hard enough to connect the dots.

It sucks being a pariah in our society. You’re fucked. The only thing Clemens has to fall back on is his wealth. I can’t imagine what it would be like if he didn’t have that…

I really do doubt that any member of the media would have turned a blind eye if a MLB player was having sex with a child.

Accusing or even implying that Clemens had sex with children is beyond low and disgusting, steroid use or no steroid use, calling the man a child molester is disgusting.

Why would anyone give a damn if Clemens had a gal-pal for most of his marriage? McNamee’s lawyers seem pretty happy about it, but who cares?

The newspaper implies — just implies — that the (sexual) relationship started when she was a teenager, which, if the world wasn’t totally insane, would be a much bigger controversy than that he might have taken steroids.
