I do agree that Giambi might need a break, but wouldn’t it be better to have Duncan at first and Damon in left? Duncan is almost certainly a better hitter than Gardner at this point, and Damon would be a huge question mark at first base. They shouldn’t rush Gardner to the majors just because he’s having his first success in AAA, especially when Duncan has had even more success.

At the risk of becoming repetitive, call up Gardner and put him in LF. Shift Damon to 1B and bench Giambi.
