I remember the year Welch had. He was good, but Clemens had a better year.

Bob Welch won 27 in 1990, IIRC. Not sure if that was a typo or not.
----

I set myself up for a perfect typo excuse, but no, I fucked that one up. I thought Steve Stone was the last one.

Winning 27 games in the modern era is absolutely amazing. He had a 2.95 ERA, which is good but not otherworldly. I was still a kid in '90. Anyone remember his year? Did his team score a ton of runs for him? Was it partially luck? Whatever the case, winning 27 out of 35 games is incredible.

I seem to recall a few times where a guy was something like 13-1 at the All-Star break and then barely reached 20 wins. I could be wrong. But, I want to swear that it's happened - and it could happen with Webb.

This has nothing to do with Hank, the Yanks or anything else, but...

Brandon Webb won his ninth last night. He's not going to win the 36 he's projected to, but you think he has a shot at 25? No one has won that many games since 1980. Though Randy Johnson and Zito won 24 and 23 respectively in 2002.

Just for comparison, Johnson was 6-1 at this time that year and had 12 wins by the ASB. He won his 24th in his last start -- a complete-game shutout over the Rox.

Hey, you gotta love it, right?
==================================
The only person that loves it is Hank himself. I'm sure that in his mind he's firing up the troops. He's a joke.
