Rival House Of Horror For Those Other Guys
Yesterday, I got an e-mail from a reader, and Yankees fan, who was basically looking to find out how bad the Mets record was when they visited the Braves - because he wanted to give his Mets fans friends the business.
I was pretty surprised at the answer.
Since 1998, the Mets are 28-61 in regular season games when they play in Atlanta. Twenty-eight and sixty-one. Wow, what a nightmare.
That got me wondering how the Yankees do when they visit their divisional foes. But, I didn’t want to go back to 1998 - since the Yankees were a great team in 1998 and 1999 - and very few teams beat them in those days. So, instead, I decided to count from 2004 - when things started to change in Yankeeland. Here are the stats:
Since 2004, when the Yankees are in…
…Boston: 20-21
…Tampa Bay: 24-19
…Baltimore: 23-17
…Toronto: 21-15
Whew. There’s nothing in there like the issue the Mets have when they travel to play the Braves.
I thought maybe the Angels, out in Cali, may have been an issue for the Yankees. But, since 2002, the Yankees are 13-13 when they play the Angels out west. I was probably thinking of the problems the Angels give the Yankees in New York - as the Yankees are 12-16 when they play the Angels in the Bronx (since 2002).
Twenty-eight and sixty-one.
Sorry, Mets fans, I still can’t get over that one. That’s just…if you excuse the pun…Amazin’!
