I don't think Steve is being dramatic here at all. Melky is not a good hitter, and I'm waiting for Yankeeland to recognize that fact. Last season, he hit .273/.327/.391, and people were still talking about how he's the center fielder of the future. If he was showing signs of improvement, then I'd be willing to wait on him, but he's not. Back in 2006 you'd see him occasionally hit the ball hard the other way, which is something that he seemingly hasn't done all year. Worse yet, I think his speed on the basepaths and range in the outfield are completely overrated, though I can't really back that opinion up with numbers.

~~What is his righty/lefty split over that period?~~

Really bad vs. LHP - but, not a ton of PA.

JJay - a week or two is a slump. A month is something else. As far as who...sonnymooks nailed it.

But, as I wrote, Melky was white hot last June, July, August...so, maybe he can do that again.

Steve, you seem to be a little too dramatic quite often. Someone has a slump and immediately you think their job is in jeopardy or they should be sent down to AAA. Who is going to take Melky's spot? Are we going to put Damon in CF? Do you think Cano and Giambi would have improved the way the have now if they had been benched or sent down? They have to work through these things.

If he keeps playing like this, you might want to start doing a write up in advance on Brett Gardner.

He impressed Cashman and Giradi in spring training and has been doing very well in AAA.

He would be they guy they call up.
