For whatever its worth, guys, Hanley Ramirez had a bad reputation too, including being sent home early for abusing a coach. If Tabata shows 80% of Ramirez’ skills at the major league level, you’ll kick yourself if he’s not in pinstripes.

At least we got Beckett and Lowell and a WS championship out of Hanley.

There may have been a scuffle in the dugout after Tabata was removed.

Last year it was a serious weight problem, as he tipped the scales at 225. Now with a wife and twins, at 19, he is losing it.

There’s no excuse for failure to back up other players, but with the balls “hit right at him”, is it possible that he just has really bad judgement and hasn’t learned how to compensate yet? I’m thinking of Bernie Williams’ habit of making “spectacular catches of routine fly balls” (credit : Charles Schultz) by starting in the wrong direction. I’ve never seen the kid play, so I may be completely off base here.

Definitely not a good thing that he’s had to be disciplined twice in two months. He is still young and youth is often thick-headed when it comes to discipline but if his attitude is also apparent in his effort and approach to the game…well, I agree it might be time to start looking at other options. The Yanks shouldn’t count too heavily on what seems to be a bit of a headcase.
