How many pitchers, in the “Steinbrenner Era,” have started a game for the New York Yankeees at age 22 or younger? Before Joba Chamberlain, who starts tonight, there have been just 16:

    Ryan Bradley
    Tyler Clippard
    Dave Eiland
    Mike Griffin
    Sterling Hitchcock
    Philip Hughes
    Ian Kennedy
    Al Leiter
    Sam Militello
    Mike Morgan
    Gene Nelson
    Gil Patterson
    Andy Pettitte
    Dave Righetti
    Jose Rijo
    Jake Westbrook

The amazing thing for me, with respect to this list, is that only Pettitte and Righetti went on to star for the Yankees. If Chamberlain does well, and remains a starter, and does it in New York, he’ll be in pretty select company.
