The Yankees have handled their young pitchers perfectly… until last night. You can’t ask anyone — young or old — to “start” a game with a 65-pitch pitch count.

Agree completely. That’s what happens when the owner dictates policy instead of the baseball people. I’d also like to add that Girardi has underwhelmed me to this point. Firing him isn’t the answer but he and his coaches seem overmatched at this point.

You could see the results coming from a mile away. Even if he didn’t have that long inning he was probably only going to go four innings. They obviously should have had Giese start and Joba piggy-back one last time. He could have gotten his four innings/65 pitches in and then been ready to start next time with an 80-pitch limit, which is much more reasonable. Basically the Yankees robbed him of really being able to start the game, despite knowing it was going to be a zoo and a media event and the results would be talked about endlessly. Not that it matters, but last night’s game gives dumbasses like M&MD fodder for a week.

Anyway, outside of when he first came back to the team after his injury, A-Rod is looking a lot like the frustrating A-Rod of 2006 when he couldn’t hit anything hard.

The catchers will be back where they belong when Posada comes back. Not sure what to do about Melky, Jeter & Cano.

So I guess ARod isn’t “mentoring” Cano & Melky this year?

Hey, in case you haven’t noticed, the Yankees, this season, are 22-30 when playing teams not called the Seattle Mariners. Perhaps it’s time to consider the notion that this team is not good?

I’d agree with that. For whatever reason, the same offense that scored 960+ runs last year can’t hit at all this year. Jeter, Cano, Melky, and the backup catchers are just painful to watch right now.
