There are no plans to sit down and talk with general manager Brian Cashman about his contract status, Yankees co-chairman Hal Steinbrenner said Friday.

Steinbrenner was at Yankee Stadium for Friday night’s game against the Royals. Several published reports this week quoted his brother Hank (also a co-chairman) as saying there were plans to try to iron out a contract extension for Cashman this week. The GM’s contract expires after the season.

Hal Steinbrenner said there have been absolutely no discussions about Cashman’s future and that there are none planned. “There’s nothing going on,” he told Newsday. “You know how we do it; we’re going to wait until after the season. That’s not a positive or a negative.”

He said he flew with Cashman from New York to Tampa on Wednesday in preparation for the amateur player draft and remained in Tampa until Friday morning. In between, he said they talked only about the team and the draft, not Cashman’s future in the organization.

Said Steinbrenner, “We’ve got enough to worry about.”

    Amen, Hal. Amen.
