Bronx Liaison & Dan Graziano
Bronx Liaison has recently conducted an interview with Dan Graziano of the Ledger. Click here to see it. Here’s my favorite part – Dan’s take on the Hank and Hal relationship:
It certainly smells like trouble, and there does seem to already have been some behind-the-scenes head-butting between the two. For instance, Hank Steinbrenner said last week that he planned to talk to Cashman about a new contract. Hal said it wasn’t true, then Hank went ahead and did it. I wonder, going forward, how the two will operate together. And I suspect that the unknown aspect of that is part of the reason Cashman is holding off on deciding whether he’ll be back. If it looks like working for Hank/Hal will be as bad as or worse than working for their dad was, he might want to skedaddle. And I think it’s too early to know for sure.
In some ways, the Hank and Hal show could shake down to be something like Wellington and Tim Mara with the football Giants. Luckily for the Giants, Pete Rozelle pointed them towards George Young – and Young took charge of the situation and led the Giants to glory.
In the end, that could be what the Yankees will need too – a G.M. smart enough, and powerful enough, to keep Hank and Hal in their place and help the Yankees get back to being a champ. But, is that person available? It would have to be someone like a John Schuerholz. But, those are far and few between…which may mean the Hank and Hal thing will remain a problem in Yankeeland, it the problem really does exist.

No problem. They have a smart and powerful GM in place. I hope he stays.
