There's a deeper basement than this, unless baseball no longer compares win-loss records anymore.

~~Seriously, where would the team be if they traded Matsui, cut Giambi, and turned their backs on Mussina, all of which a lot of fans wanted?~~

Well considering that, at the moment, they're tied for last WITH THEM, I guess they'd still be in last place. ;-)

Don't they basically say that about every leadoff hitter? "When Reyes goes, the Mets go." "When Sizemore goes, the Indians go." Etc. Hmm, I guess it makes sense that when the guy getting the most at-bats gets on base at a good clip it's a positive.

Anyway... the G-man. Ridiculous. But isn't it always the same with this guy? When he's healthy, he mashes. When he's injured, he's hated. People wanted to cut this guy. They wanted to give him 20+ million to go play elsewhere. I remember having this conversation right here on this site. Seriously, where would the team be if they traded Matsui, cut Giambi, and turned their backs on Mussina, all of which a lot of fans wanted?
