Yanks Now To Win 87 Games This Season? A-Rod & Charley Hustle
Jun 17

Mets management pulled a Robert Irsay and fired Willie Randolph while most of New York was asleep (early this morning).

Last September, I expressed how sorry I was to see a great Yankee have such tough times in the Land of the Mets. Today, nothing has changed. While I cannot comment as to whether or not Willow did a good job as manager there – as I do not watch Mets games that closely – I do feel (from watching some news clips) that Randolph kept trying to keep his chin up and be both a man and a pro during the tough times. Was that enough? Obviously not, according to the Mets.

In any event, working for the Mets was a great way for Willie to cut his teeth as a manager. Working in any other town – sans New York, Boston or Philly – should be a piece of cake for him. If Randolph gets another chance to manage, I would not be shocked to see him do well – or, at least, better than he did with the Mets.

Could we see Randolph return to the Yankees, in some capacity, someday? I suspect that he’s burned his bridges to the Bronx. But, if the Yankees get a new G.M., it’s possible. Hank Stein, like his dad, has a soft spot for ex-Yankees and former champions. So, it’s probably safest to say “never say never” in regard to the question of “Will Randolph wear Yankees pinstripes again?”

Here’s to hoping YES can recruit him to maybe eventually do some games in the booth.

Typical nonsense from the JV squad in Queens. I hope the Wilpons and Minaya get appropriately killed for this. Omar’s head is on the chopping block now and he knows it…

The Mets and their fans don’t appreciate Willie like us Yankees fans, so they don’t deserve him anyway.

The Mets roster is seriously overrated, especially their pitching and they have a couple of guys who seem to play on cruise control all the time.

Come back to the Yanks Willie, that is where you belong!

Oh and by the way, I went back and checked out what Cashman had to say about Willie from your older post and I remember all his comments about Bernie too from last year.

He seems like a jerk and needs to shut his trap when it comes to talking about former Yankees greats in a negative light. Let Hank run his trap, not the GM.

Makes me wish he could go out on the field so we could all boo the crap out of him. I know you would enjoy that too Steve!!

    ODE to WILLIE

Out of frustration I too was calling for your head
When the Mets were playing like they were the walking dead
But deep down inside I respected you man
Even though I didn’t always like your game plan

You played the race card, it wasn’t a good thing
And like others before you felt the media sting
But at the end of the day you’re a man of dignity and grace
The Mets brass however, took you out of the race

So farewell Wille, hope to see you back on the beat
The team will go on without you even in your defeat
Being a Yankee at heart maybe Hank will give you a call
Since you can’t fire the players, the manager’s gotta take the fall

    LET’S GO METS!!!!

    Here’s your upgrade for Cano.

The Mets fired one of the classiest guys in New York sports at 3AM with a press release–to replace him with Jerry Manuel.

This makes Randy Levine & Co. look heroic.
