Stark is reporting that the Yankees have already approached him about next season. They wouldn't exercise the option for 22 million but apparently the five million he gets anyway plus some reasonable salary may be enough to keep him in pinstripes another year.

That would fall under "you pays your money and you takes your chances".

Jason Giambi is pretty much still radioactive. He will likely not get the money that any other player who would hit 40 home runs would get simply because his health - well the last 7 years have shown how his health is.

Either way Giambi will likely have a decent contract somewhere but expect it to be so loaded with incentives and clauses that he might be paid per run.

If I was Brian Cashman - or anyone in the brain trust I wouldn't bother with Giambi in the future. His health, defense, steroid past and just plain bone-headedness have cost the Yankees more than they paid for him. There is no room for him on the team after this season.
