This is kind of a tough one. There’s a good argument for Rivera who has been as brilliant as ever. There’s an argument for Moose who has provided stability to the rotation that no one expected. There’s definitely arguments for Damon, Giambi, and Matsui who have hit well so far this year. My vote is for A-Rod, simply because the team has been winning since he got back and it’s as if the offense got healthy once he did.

He’s not the MVP, but he has been incredible for this team. I remember when they signed him to a minor-league deal and Yankee fans went nuts — it was right after Tom Gordon left. “Who is this guy?” “What a joke.” “Is this the only option we have?” “This is a new low picking up someone no one knows from winter ball.” Etc., etc., etc. It just goes to show you that evaluating players who you’ve never even seen will always make you look like an idiot.

I am shocked at the lack of love for Matsui here, to date. That said, I voted for Damon.
