Steve, the question wasn't whether Ramirez has been better. The question was, has Farnsworth been so bad that he needs to be offset by someone who has been having a good season? ... as you incorrectly argued.

Farnsworth has, overall, been a big disappointment to me over the last 2+ yeas, but his contributions this year, other than his contributions to my high blood pressure, have been a net positive.

(Steve, it's okay to admit when you're wrong sometimes. Really. I bet you would get a lot more respect around here from your critics for doing so.)

(And, Aceves is not 5'10" 176, so your post on the topic remains insufficiently-sourced BS.)

OK, here's a stat for you.

Farnsworth has pitched in 33 games - and 20 times he's gone 1+ IP with 0 earned runs.

Ramirez has pitched in 22 games - and 16 times he's gone 1+ IP with 0 earned runs.

Bottom line, Ramirez has been consistently better.

Because Ramirez’s performance is exceeding his pay grade whereas Farnsworth is barely league average and being paid like a king.
-------------------------------------
That makes no sense. Even the token Red Sox baiter called you out on this one.

Forget what players make. Judge them by their performance.

Speaking of Aaron Small, according to the NYDN, he's doing quite well for himself;

"SMALL WORLD: Aaron Small, one of the Yankees' unlikely heroes of the 2005 season, was in Pittsburgh this week to run some church baseball clinics for inner-city kids, so he dropped by PNC Park before Tuesday night's game to catch up with his old teammates.

Small went 10-0 in 2005, becoming just the fourth pitcher in history to win double-digit games without suffering a loss. He retired in May 2007 after trying to catch on with Seattle.

"I haven't looked back," said Small, who has been running baseball clinics in his hometown of Loudon, Tenn., and doing speaking engagements with youth groups and churches. "But just getting to tell the stories, it's like, 'Did this really happen?'" "

Glad to hear he's doing well.

~~Also, if Farnsworth & Ramirez are making positive contributions, how can they offset each other?~~

That's silly, Steve. Is the a report card on performance or a report card on return on investment?

If Farnsworth and Ramirez are both on the positive side of your favorite pitching statistic, then you can't say they offset each other (without referencing some other stat, like maybe runs allowed in the eighth inning when the Yankees are ahead.)

Raf - what’s your point?
---
Putting the numbers out there. Also, if Farnsworth & Ramirez are making positive contributions, how can they offset each other?

Interesting that for a team that was supposed to mash their way to the postseason their pitching has been decent.

As probably has been stated before, Abreu, Jeter, Cano & Melky need to figure out what it is they need to do to get back on the ball.
