Plus, see the 2003 NLCS...if you want a taste of what Farnsworth can do to a team in the post-season.

I agree, Stray. Girardi caught Farnsworth in Chicago. He must believe that he can get something out of him. Unlike Torre, who I think felt a little constrained by Farnsworth's contract to actually use him in high leverage situations, Girardi inherited this contract, and it is in its final year. Girardi can walk away from the situation (and may still), and give the set-up role to Veras or Cox or Robertson, or Bruney when he comes back in the next few weeks.

It doesn't help anyone if Farnsworth loses confidence.

Though I do agree with Steve, the better he does now, the more likely he'll be used in a higher leverage situation later in the season, and frankly, he's just not that good. His career ERA is near 4.50 for a reason. He throws 98 mph, but it's straight on a line and easy to hit. I wonder why the Yankees haven't tried to dial him back to 94 or 95, and try to get a little more movement on it.

You know it could be a bit of psychology - some times you need to make people believe in themselves by continously giving them opportunities. We're a weeks away from the all-star break. We don't have many players going to the all star game. July is going to be an important month. Sitting Farnsworth and making him believe that he isn't an effective pitcher will only make him a less effective pitcher.

To my eye, Farnsy was real lucky: 2 well hit balls. Each could easily have been doubles or HRs. (I think one of them was an ugly hanging off-speed pitch.)

So why did all the Fox announcers (during the game and post-game analysis) praise Krazy Kyle for pitching so well this year? Besides not following the team so not knowing had bad he really is, did they not see the two rockets hit off him?
