I remember that game and that summer well. I was 9 years old and was lucky enough to be at the July 4th game. I also happened to attend the game 20 days letter in what became known as the Pine Tar game. I was in my SI Little League uniform, and unfortnately had to leave early because I had a game that day. We were listening to the game in the car on the way out of the stadium when the incident happened. I love being a Yankee fan. Do fans of any other teams get to have memories like this?

Baseball on the radio, in the backyard, during the summer...

hey, don't feel like you missed something not having SC...there's few things better for a kid than hanging in their own backyard, in the summer, with the ballgame on the radio!

Now I know why I was listening to the game in my backyard rather than watching it on TV. I didn't SC. Never-the-less, I enjoyed it and can recall it just like it was yesterday.

Best 4th of July ever!

Yeah, pretty sure you needed a box back then to get SC...this was before the Island had cable, IIRC.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he's feeling better soon.

My dad was a Manager (80 Years old this month)of a Snug Harbor Little League team that year and there was this one good ball Player Matt Riley whose dad gave us a summer house for one month at Cedar Grove Beach.(at the end of New Dorp lane)I remember watching the game on a box they had on top of the T.V. Was that Sportschannel Steve? My Dad sits in the hospital as we speak. when i left there at 1:15 he was watching the start of the mets-Yankees game. Steve you made me remember a special moment. thanks Chris Bert
