Not Getting The Job Done
One of Kenny Singleton’s favorite slices…Yankees batters, to date, this season, when they come to the plate with a runner on third and less than 2 outs:
BATTER PA RBI/PA Christian 1 2.00 Ensberg 1 1.00 Gardner 1 1.00 Matsui 14 0.93 Damon 13 0.92 Giambi 17 0.88 Posada 6 0.83 Cano 19 0.74 Cabrera 18 0.72 Jeter 16 0.69 Duncan 3 0.67 Molina 8 0.50 Abreu 23 0.48 Rodrigz 26 0.42 Betemit 5 0.40 Moeller 5 0.40 Gonzalz 4 0.25
Man…Matsui, Damon, and Giambi are getting the job done in these spots.
A-Rod and Abreu? They’re terrible. And, there’s no excuse for this failure. Your third and fourth batters in the line-up should not be failing 50-60% of the time when they come to the plate with a runner on third and less than 2 outs.
Wait, some may say, maybe they’re being pitched around?
Nope. In 26 PA with a runner on third and less than 2 outs, A-Rod has walked ZERO times this season. And, In 23 PA with a runner on third and less than 2 outs, Abreu has walked just two times this season.
