The A.L. All-Stars were announced today. Mike Mussina did not make the cut.
Then again, John Danks, Shaun Marcum, Gavin Floyd, Jon Lester, Armando Galarraga and Felix Hernandez didn’t make the team either. Still, when you factor in the career that Mussina has posted, in addition to the fact that he’s a Yankee and this game is being played in Yankee Stadium, it would have been nice to see him make the team.
Oh, well, maybe someone will beg off and they can then squeeze Moose on to the team? Hey, Roger Clemens was a last minute addition to the 2003 All-Stars when Barry Zito couldn’t pitch. So, it’s happened before…

by the players, not Francona.
I’m still not sure who was Francona’s picks. Nothing wrong with picking Drew, if it was his call. That would mean that he didn’t have a pitching selection – which I think was the case because he’d probably have gone with Lester or Dice-K first.
Personally I think Longoria is the pick for the final spot, followed by Dye and then Giambi. If you think about it as an “MVP” type choice, that ordering is pretty obvious, IMHO.

This is even more meaningless than the HoF voting.
