“Go-Ahead Hits” are hits where a team went from tied or behind to ahead in a game. (And, may have also benefitted from errors in the process.) Here are some “Go-Ahead Hits” totals (via Baseball-Reference.com) for select Yankees players, this season, to date:
Giambi: 13
A-Rod: 12
Abreu: 9
Jeter: 7
Matsui: 6
Cano: 6
Melky: 5
Damon: 4
Molina: 4
Betemit: 1
Shelley Duncan: 1
Gardner: 1
Posada: 0
Funny, based on gut feel, many would have thought that Damon, Matsui and Jeter would have been higher here – and that Giambi, A-Rod and Abreu would have been lower. But, the numbers don’t lie. Interesting.

Expand on your research. When are these hits coming?
I know you are trying to show who is clutch but a lot of those hits could be a 0-0 game in the 1st inning.

Yeah, and FWIW, we have no idea what the rates are here too.
It’s great if someone was 13 hits here. But, if those 13 hits came in 100 chances and someone else had 5 in 6 chances, I’m more impressed with the latter.
