Trenton Thunder center fielder Austin Jackson is the Eastern League Player of the Week, and left-handed starter Phil Coke is the EL Pitcher of the Week.

Jackson batted .643 (9-for-14) in four games with three doubles, one home run, two RBIs and five runs scored. He also had an RBI double in the EL All-Star Game in New Hampshire on July 16.

In a three-game series sweep of rival Portland following the All-Star Game, Jackson hit .800 (8-for-10). He had four hits in four at bats in the series opener and two hits in each game of Saturday’s doubleheader (the series finale was rained out on Sunday).

Jackson, the No. 2 prospect in the New York Yankees system according to Baseball America magazine and one of the top young outfielders in minor league baseball, is now batting .296 in 96 games for the 2008 Thunder.

The 21-year-old Jackson leads Trenton in almost every other offensive category, including hits (115), runs scored (60), doubles (26), home runs (nine), extra-base hits (40) and RBIs (56). In the EL, he’s second in hits, third in runs scored, fourth in doubles and sixth in RBIs.

Sounds like it’s time for the Yankees to move Jackson up to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre…any day now.
