What seems particularly impressive is that, one by one, the Yankees started the second half playing the three teams ahead of them in the WC race. They swept the A's, and passed them for the WC; swept the Twins, and passed them for the WC; and if they sweep the Red Sox, they will pass them for sole possession of the WC (by percentage points).

It will be a very tall order to sweep the Red Sox at home, given the way they have played at Fenway this year, but I'm just making the point that the Yankees are THIS close to controlling their Playoff destiny, and could be in the driver's seat before the end of July.

That would be quite a turnaround.

~~I wouldn’t say that, but he’s got a real shot at winning 20 this season, which would be his first. Who could have ever imagined that?~~

Not me. Not in a million. I'm totally floored by what he's done so far.

Mike Mussina = Cy Young.

what a shame it was that Mo Rivera had to be used in this game - it was a great afternoon in the Bronx today.
---------------
I suppose on the bright side, he didn't throw too much, and with an off day tomorrow, he'll be rested enough for the Red Sox series.
