Given Griffey’s injury risk, sure it’s stupid to play him in CF.

But players move between positions all the time. Rodriguez may not be Ozzie Smith, or Omar Vizquel or Khalil Greene at the position, but I see no reason why he can’t be a competent shortstop.

There’s no reason to believe that A-Rod, given his size, age, and the FIVE YEARS that he’s been off the position, can play SS again at the big league level.

And, don’t even start about shifting A-Rod to short…that will never happen

If the Yankees have someone on the 15-day (Posada?) and he’s going to be out for the rest of the year, there’s no wasted move in putting them on the 60-day. You can have as many as you want on the 60-day.

Then again, I don’t know if Posada is already on the 60? But, you could move someone like Bruney to the 60, just to buy time, before he’s ready to pitch again.

perhaps they couldve done that, but for a player who didnt seem to figure in the organizations long term plans, why waste a move like that?

I think he meant for the off-season more than right now. The Yankees have a lot of people they need to protect this winter and the 60-day dl doesn’t help then.
