Remember when Steve Balboni was the captain of the Columbus Shuttle?

Well, Chris Britton has got to be the skipper of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Funicular, or something.

What a bizarre big league season Britton is fashioning so far…

He’s only pitched in five games for the Yankees this season: Two in May, Two in June, and one in July.

All five of those games were Yankees losses. All five times he came into the game when Yankees were losing by four runs or more. And, in four of the five games, he “closed” out the game for New York – meaning he pitched from the time he came in until the last frame of the game for the Yankees defense.

When it comes to Chris Britton, I think the Yankees feeling is “We like you; but, we really don’t like you.”

At least with Balboni, there was a reason he was on the shuttle; he struck out too much, despite the organization being in love with his power.

Britton has been effective in both the majors and the minors. I had no idea why Torre didn’t use him more than he had, I have no idea why Girardi didn’t use him more, and I don’t know what the organization has against him (especially since they were running Hawkins out there all this time).

It’s just odd. It’s not like we’ve heard reports of him being a discipline problem or a head case, or anything.
