Valentine’s Day 2004

As a Yankees fan, would you say that the Yankees have had more bad fortune than good fortune since Valentine’s Day 2004?

In terms of the post-season, I think the answer is “yes.”

And, as far as the regular season, well…

The Yankees won the A.L. East by 6 games in 2003. The next year, 2004, they won the East by 3 games. In 2005, New York ended up tied for first with the Red Sox. So, they were going backwards, somewhat, no? Granted, in 2006, the Yankees won the A.L. East by 10 games. However, last season, the finished in second place – for the first time since 1997.

At the least, I think it’s safe to say that the Yankees, since Valentine’s Day 2004, have not done as well in the regular season standings as they did from 1996 through 2003, no?

As far as the regular season, it should also be noted that the pitching staff imploded in 04, 05, 06 & 07; that could be filed under bad fortune

    Lack of luck.

People forget that we got some fortune during 1996-2003. Since then, the things that would usually go our way ( Blown save in ALCS 2004 to the Error from Alex in game 2 of 2005 ALDS to the momentum changing rain out of game 2 in the 2006 ALDS to the bugs in game 2 of the 2007 ALDS ) havent quite gone our way.

Like Billy Beane said. Good teams make the playoffs and its a crap shoot to see who wins the Series.

Problem is that ARod isn’t the problem, at least not this year…

    RCAA
    Richie Sexson -1
    Xavier Nady -1
    Derek Jeter -5
    Wilson Betemit -6
    Robinson Cano -13
    Jose Molina -16
    Melky Cabrera -16

3 of your starters have a negative RCAA (4 if you want to count Molina), two of them in double digits (3 if you want to count Molina).

Yanks need to get that squared away.

There was less parity back then. We owned baseball. now a lot more teams are good and putting a lot more money into their teams
