August 2008 Survey Question #2

Please consider taking the following poll:

Now that it's been reported that the MRI on Joba Chamberlain's right shoulder showed 'something,' and that he's going to see Dr. James Andrews for an second opinion, are you worried about the Yankees chances to remain in the race for a post-season berth this year?

The disconcerting thing is that Dr. Andrews is the guy you see for something catastrophic - and yet the Lohud blog had him being the “conservative treatment” guy so its “probably not that serious”. What is serious is that its likely if he is only prescribed rest/strengthening, that’s something that would take the rest of the month and probably much more for him to shut it down, rest it, then build it back up.

The really ironic thing is that the Yanks started the season relying on Hughes and Kennedy in the rotation. They both spit the bit, they both got hurt, they both got significantly dropped on the depth chart and yet, at the end of the season, they’re going to rely on them again.

But I’ve learned never to count the Yankees out. Hopefully they’ll overcome this just enough to take a chunk out of the Ray’s hide - then fall just short of the playoffs. ;)

If Joba is out for the season or for an extended period of time, then the Yankees will have a tough time making the playoffs. It’s already a struggle right now with Giese having to replace Rasner in the rotation and still having Ponson.

Hughes got moved up to triple-A, so maybe he’ll be back soon and maybe Kennedy will get another shot but I find it hard to believe they will step it up enough to fill Joba’s shoes.
