    I’m not overly impressed with the Yankees offense in this one. Considering the level of experience behind the pitchers they faced in this contest…scoring five runs should have been the minimum expectation out of them…and that’s all they scored…five runs.

    You know…Sidney Ponson is a terrible pitcher. I hated it when the Yankees announced that they picked him up. And, I don’t like having him on this team.

    But, the fact of the matter is, Ponson has made seven starts for the Yankees now and New York has won five of those games. Further, one of the two games that they lost was by the score of 1-0. You really can’t say that Sidney Ponson has hurt the Yankees…so far. And, in some ways, he’s been a help to the team…again…so far. (And, it kills me to say that.)

    It will be interesting to see if the Yankees make a roster move now with Pudge getting hurt in this game. Can they afford to play with one catcher for a few games? I don’t think so…

    I could see them sending Darrell Rasner down now…but, who on the 40-man roster would go to make room for Chad Moeller? Do you move Posada or Wang to the 60-day D.L.? Or, do you release someone like Billy Traber? Time will tell…

      Sir Sidney, The Stopper!

      He’s been better than Hughes, Kennedy, Igawa and Rasner. And, is he really any worse than Byrd, Arroyo, Washburn, Millwood, Livan etc..?

      If that was true…then there never would have been a need for Ponson in the first place.

      Can’t predict injuries. Even the guys on the farm have been hurt. While I’m not about to run out and buy a “Ca$hman R00lz!!11!” t-shirt, I have to give the guy a bit of credit.

      As tommyl over @ Bronx Banter said;

      “Ok guys, so if on opening day I told you this:

      By August, the team would be without Wang, Matsui, Posada, Joba, Kennedy and Hughes. The first three or four likely out for the season. Then I told you A-Rod missed almost 6 weeks, Jeter and Damon were hurt for shorter periods and Melky was OBPing less than .300. Then I said that Sidney Ponson was our #3 starter, who would have said we’d even be sniffing the wild card?”

      The team keeps (s)puttering along.
