Manny Wants To Play In The Bronx?
Via George King -
Having successfully orchestrated his divorce from Boston and his landing in with the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez would like to make life miserable for the Red Sox during the next few seasons.
According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston.
“He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox,” a close friend of Ramirez’s told The Post.
Of course, every free agent says he wants to play for the Yankees. They pay well, will always have a chance to make the postseason, and when they show an interest in a free agent, the price from other clubs skyrockets.
Considering Ramirez is represented by Scott Boras, every imaginable angle will be played when the 36-year-old, a product of George Washington High School in Washington Heights, will become a free agent following the World Series.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman would not comment on the situation.
If Manny really wants to annoy the Sox, maybe he should sign with the Tampa Bay Rays?
This will be an interesting situation this off-season. Hopefully, the “Boras” factor will be enough to make Hank Stein stay away from Manny. I’d much rather have Xavier Nady, than Manny, all things considered.

There’s no way that the Yankees, with so many outfield/1b/DH types, would go for Manny. But he’ll still end up in New York, as the Mets will finally get their man and be able to install an HoF outfielder for the first year of their new stadium.
Maybe he’ll get a chance to clobber the Sox once every three years or so – but he’ll get to hit in the Bronx every year in June.
You’d pretty much have to be crazy not to sign Manny. Granted, if he wants a 5 year deal, no way. But the guy can flat out hit and isn’t really slowing down. Nady would be lucky to be 1/2 as productive. Sure, Manny might be a pain in the butt, but that sure didn’t hurt the Sox very much in the past 5 years.Get rid of Gimabi and Abreu and replace them with Manny.
I don’t think it will happen though. As the above suggests, Queens seems like a much better fit
No thanks!
We’ve been down this road before, the FA signings, trades for players with bloated deals, Alex at ten(!) years, on-and-on. But no WS victory since 2000.
And I don’t see the Mets signing him either. There’s no DH.
I think Manny is going to wreak havoc and revenge on the Red Sox AND the Yankees in Toronto. He was supposedly a Jays fan growing up and they desperately need a DH. If Ricciardi sticks around , he will definitely go for Manny. As for the Mets, the Mets don’t play in the AL East so where is his revenge angle? Then again, when does Manny actually THINK and/or have a method for his madness?
As for the Mets, Omar doesn’t need a DH ,he needs an all around player in the outfield not Manny being Manny. Then again, Omar signed Castillo and Alou despite health concerns.

Other than the Rodriguez trade (another salary dump), the Yanks were doing the same when they won WS; Clemens & Fielder come to mind as salary relief trades
