YES, Yanks, Are You Listening? August 19th @ The Blue Jays
Aug 19

I’ve always had an interest in Craig Biggio.

He’s a local guy – born in Long Island and lived in Spring Lake (NJ) for a while. And, there was the Bill James thing about him. Also, there’s all the work that he’s done for the Sunshine Kids Foundation. Plus, what’s not to like about a guy who played catcher, second base, and the outfield in the major leagues – while getting 3,000 hits in the process?

In many ways, Craig Biggio is another form of Derek Jeter – sans the celebrity gal pals and the rings – and perhaps better in the sense that he was willing to change positions in the field to help his team.

In any event, because of my interest in Biggio, I was more than happy (when asked) to review the new book “Biggio: The Final Game” which was released on August 1st.

This book is a photographic chronicle (by Michael Hart) of everything that happened in Biggio’s last game – the pre-game, batting, fielding, running, and post-game reaction. It’s a pretty cool look into the celebration of a great career.

Biggio: The Final Game” has also been selected for inclusion in the Library of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

If you’re a fan of baseball, and a fan of players who played the game right, and who also went about their business off-the-field in a manner that was admirable, you should enjoy checking out this book.

No doubt because of the concept. Interesting, how in all these years, all the players that have played the game, that no one has ever thought of doing something like this before.
