Joba’s Mechanics Sherman: Mets Youth Better Than Yanks Kids
Aug 20

Thank you, Andy Pettitte.

You know, when it’s all said and done for Pettitte, the Yankee may, or may not, elect to retire #46. And, if New York decides not to retire Pettitte’s uniform number, I’d be OK with it.

But, when Andy hangs them up, the Yankees darn well better give Pettitte a plaque in Monument Park.

Andy may never make it to Cooperstown…like Whitey Ford, Lefty Gomez and Red Ruffing. But, Pettitte is a modern day Allie Reynolds – in terms of what he’s meant to the Yankees in his career. And, Reynolds has a plaque in Monument Park.

When you see games like this one, from Andy, it’s just a reminder that Pettitte deserves to be out there too.

Couldn’t agree more. Pettitte has had his share of letdowns in big moments but he’s also had his share of huge performances. And, whether backed up by stats or not, I have always perceived Pettitte to be the true stopper on every staff he’s been on here in New York. Bottom line, I trust, respect, and love the guy. That’s why I was so happy to participate in P46 this past winter.

Andy was a beast again last night, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

He was big last night but he has had some horrible starts for the Yanks this season. I don’t think he has been the stopper this season like he has in the past. They needed him to step it up when Wang got injured and I don’t think he really did that. He has a 5.30 ERA in his last 6 starts and only 37.1 innings pitched. I have been kind of disappointed that he hasn’t pitched better this season.

Pettite did a good job BUT the Jays are a bad offensive/RISP team anyway. Andy deserves credit, but honestly who is scary in Toronto’s lineup? They made Rasner look like Cy Young the other day. Yeah, they shelled Boston the other day BUT that was the exception not the rule. They are like the opposite of the Texas Rangers , all pitching and defense and no hitting, That being said, it was great to see Pettitte get it done. As antone says, he has had some bad starts this season and the Jays ‘ bad offense has a lot to do with Rasner and Pettite looking so good so far. The Yankee pitching deserves some credit BUT there are no lethal hitters on the Jays and they are worse than the Yankees at RISP so how much was the bad Toronto offense and decent Yankee pitching.
