that was real slick of you to slip that little hughes tidbit in at the end. real sneaky-like. i’m glad you’re writing him off so early in his carreer, because nobody fails before the succeed. if they’re not amazing out the gate then they should be casted away like nothing, right steve. in that frame of mind they should have dumped bernie after his first season, or MO. he wasn’t to good of a started was he? as has been said, hughes is working on a new pitch or 2 to combat lefties. you can not expect him to have figured it out in a few starts, can you? he was rushed to the majors and now they are taking a step back and letting him develop a little bit more. the kid’s 21. give him some time before you bury him with your lofty expectations. and stop drinking that HATERADE.

Raf, that was *writing him off*? But the bloom certainly has come off after 2007/2008 – yeah, back-to-back seasons of injury, etc.

Hughes has a lot to prove now, and until he does, shows he isn’t an injury waiting to happen, that he isn’t a guy who will throw 86 pitches in five innings, etc., what I posted is apt.

Nothing’s official until he retires. Anyone can have a bad year, anyone can have a couple of bad starts.

OMG. For YEARS I’ve had to endure smack from the ‘Fans of Phil’ because of my opinion on Hughes. And, now, that it’s CLEAR that Phil Hughes has been an absolute bust this season – backing up my feelings about him, I’m asked to please back off on Hughes.

Just as it was “kinda early” to annoint him as “The Franchise.”

Having said that, I’m not worried either way.

I never annointed him the “franchise” but I was hoping and still am hoping that he’d turn out to be a damn good pitcher for the Yankees. Unlike some people, apparently…..

Give it a rest Steve. We all understand that it’s a lost season of development for Hughes and that he hasn’t saved the season like he was predicted to. Maybe he turns around and has an Edison Volquez type season next year. Maybe he doesn’t. It’s the Yankees job to worry about fixing the problems and making the adjustments. You shouldn’t harp on this one guy so much. He isn’t even on the team right now.
