You've got me by 11 years!

http://waswatching.com/2006/11/27/where-it-all-began/

But, I was ten at the time...not seven like you.

So, in the "overall" dept - you only have me by seven years! ;-)

Tresh Fan - gotta ask
...when did you see your first Yankees game?
 ------------------------------------------

46 years ago this month. I was just about 7 years old. My uncle took me down to the game. He was born in 1912, had been a Yankees fan since 1920 (the year they acquired Ruth), and had the most wonderful scrapbook you ever saw---news clippings, pictures, scorecard sheets, ticket stubs. He used to enthrall me with stories of "Murderer's Row" and could recall nearly every player who ever wore pinstripes. I would pick his brain for hours. Nothing delighted me more than watching a Yankees game with him; even on a dreary, overcast day like that one.

Here's a few of my faves. And, yes, I've omitted the obvious one (#15).

#2 - Sandy Alomar, Sr. and Dale Berra. I've won a few beers on this one---name a father and a son who wore #2 for the Yanks.

#3 - Cliff Mapes. I believe he's the last to wear #3 for the Yankees. If not, I owe drinks to an awful lot of people.

#5 - Nick Etten. He wore it when Joe D. was in the service in the 40's.

#6 - Charley Smith. Yeah, I know.

#7 - Leo Durocher. I'm not kidding.

#8 - Benny Bengough began the backstop tradition in 1929.

#9 - Arndt Jorgens. He played on five World Championship teams, and never appeared in a single World Series game.

#10 - Celerino Sanchez. Good field, no hit.

#11 - Hector Lopez. Good hit, no field.

That's enough for now.
