Why the wringing of hands re: Pavano? It's not like he disappeared due to ineffectiveness. He disappeared because he couldn't stay healthy. The guy was a highly rated prospect, and an average ML pitcher with one outstanding year, and then disaster struck in the form of a litany of injuries.

Sidney Ponson is a disaster waiting to happen because of his WHIP and character. The worse thing that's probable for Pavano is that he injures himself again, at which point, big f'n deal. Judging from his last outing and his minor league rehab assignment, he's got his stuff back.

I guess it's crazy that after nearly four seasons of being absent, he's in a good position to help the Yankees make a playoff run. But when he's scheduled to pitch it's not like I avert my eyes and worry about the last couple of starts where he just escaped getting crushed or did get crushed.
