The Yankees are on the verge of being a 4th place team, would you rather hear Hal talk about the slim profit margin because of the Nady/Marte/Pudge trades adding more money to payroll and therefore reducing margins OR Hank acting like he gives a rat’s ass?
----------------
I'd rather they STFU. They've got nothing to say that I want to hear. They hired baseball people, let them do their jobs.

If you want to show that you "give a rat's ass" talk is cheap, do something about it.

The fans need assurance that ownership cares especially when a team is down. The Yankees are on the verge of being a 4th place team, would you rather hear Hal talk about the slim profit margin because of the Nady/Marte/Pudge trades adding more money to payroll and therefore reducing margins OR Hank acting like he gives a rat's ass?

As for John Henry, Henry is an egghead and hardly knows how to speak eloquently anyway. He has no reason to speak , when his team is performing so well since he took over. His team has Bill James and the Yankees have golden thongs and ghosts, do you want him to comment on that?

"Do you remember the 80’s? I have no doubts that Steinbrenner cared, but his actions were counterproductive to say the least."

George? yeah, ill buy that.

Hank (and Hal)? remains to be seen, but he hasnt done anything yet to make me think that what Hank says in public is counterproductive to the team winning.

"Bottom line, the owner’s role should be to invest in the product and to make the team as successful as possible."

isnt that what they do? yes.

"All the talking, outward expressions of emotion, or anything else of that nature is counterproductive and window dressing."

so showing any emotion is bad?

and why is it then ok for a fan, who really has absolutely nothing but personal feeling invested in a sports team expected and good, but an owner, who literally has hundreds of millions of dollars invested in the team, along with everything that goes along with that team (personal relationships with players and personnel, desire to win/competitiveness, etc) who shows emotion about that team's performance is wrong?

really, entertainment is a personal preference. you obvious wish Hank was like John Henry, while i like to hear the owner speak out. we can agree to disagree there.

but its not counterproductive.

butchie’s got it right. its nice to be reassured that ownership still cares.

hank, so far, has certainly been entertaining, no? unless you take things too seriously, in which case you should remember… its just a game.
----------------------------------------
Do fans in Boston worry that ownership doesn't care? John Henry rarely speaks but I'd bet Red Sox fans don't wish they'd get better theater and entertainment value out of their owner's box.

"That’s scary, given how many fans are poorly informed and frighteningly reactionary."

yeah, but lets get real. there is a difference between ignorance and wearing your heart on your sleeve.

butchie's got it right. its nice to be reassured that ownership still cares.

and in the end, we watch baseball, and follow the yankees, because we love the game, want to be entertained, and because they've always maintained a commitment to giving their fans to field the best team possible.

Hank did speak the truth, even though he's a rabble rouser. The fans need the reassurance that ownership actually cares. All we hear is silence from the real boss, Hal, and GM newsspeak from Cashman every once and awhile. Hank sounds like a fanboy BUT he's sounds like a Mini-Me version of George, too. AS crazy and out there as George is/was, Yankee fans still want that fire and brimstone from on high. Hal is doing an Uncle Scrooge counting the money and Hank is the goofy/George Steinbrenner Lite. It makes for good theater........
