The Final Tater At This Stadium
I just came across this – that was in the Daily News on Saturday – where Kevin Millar talks about playing the last game at Yankee Stadium:
“Personally, it’s been one of, if not the funnest place to go play,” says Kevin Millar, the Baltimore first baseman who played a key role in that most painful of Bronx memories, the 2004 ALCS. “You’re always hated when you wear a Red Sox uniform, and being an Oriole the last three years, you’re still hated because you did wear a Red Sox uniform. But I think it’s a great hate. The fans have always been great and respect ballplayers, but they’re true Yankee fans – if you’re not wearing pinstripes, you’re not on their side. So it’s gonna be a sad day because it’s an old-school stadium, one of my favorites. But they’ve got a big dog stadium going up next door with a lot of money, and it’s a new chapter.”
However, before that new chapter starts, Millar would like to pen his name to the end of the old one.
“It would be nice to be the last home run, to go down in history that way,” Millar says. “I’m sure there’s a guy who hit the first one, and it would sure be nice to hit the last one.”
Told that the guy who hit the first one was the Babe himself, Millar says, “So, Ruth and Millar. That sounds normal.”
Gosh, I cannot stand Millar.
In any event, just as Hal Lanier and Duke Sims are just trivia answers, at this point, when it comes to final things at Yankee Stadium, I’m sure whoever hits the last homer this season at Yankee Stadium will be just the same…unless, of course, it’s someone like Jeter or A-Rod who hits it.

Although I don’t advocate violence, hopefully they bean him in his last AB so he doesn’t have the chance.
I actually think it’s respectful of him to want to hit the last HR because it shows he knows it’s a big deal and would be part of the history of the game. He seems to be very respectful of the Yankees and their history.
Now it would be different if he said that he is as good as Jeter and deserves to hit the last HR in Yankee Stadium just as much as Jeter does. That would be similar to Paplebon’s comments about Rivera closing out the All-Star Game.
I really don’t see the issue with Millar’s comments.
Anyone who isn’t blinded by hatred of the Sox wouldn’t see the issue either, Antone.
I am not saying his comments are disrespectful. I just hate Kevin Millar.
i am blinded by red sox hatred
but i like Millar. He’s one of those players if he was on our side we’d love him. He gets big hits…its just against us

I don’t agree. Ask Orioles fans if they love him. Going to Fenway to throw out a ceremonial pitch in last year’s playoffs? Jeez, that’s just atrocious.
I don’t begrudge RSN fans for loving Millar just as we love our own former heroes of mediocre pedigree (Brosius, Tino, etc.). But Millar is an annoying asswipe.
