If you are a member of the New York Yankees, and you have to pick a day to get pulled into the doghouse, could you possibly pick a better day than doing it on the same day where the Mets blow a huge game, the football Giants win big, and the Jets lose a game to the Patriots at home?

Robinson Cano is catching a break today. On any other day, he would be the main entree on the local media’s grill. In any event, if I’m General Joe, I’m still making sure that Robby rides the pines again today – he deserves it.

I was at the game yesterday and was wondering if Cano got hurt when he didn’t come back out the next inning.

Some idiot Yankee fans were booing Abreu on that play which annoyed me since it was so obvious that Cano was 10 feet away but couldn’t be bothered to run, forcing Abreu to come in over 100 feet to field a little ground ball.

Then again, some of this could’ve prevented if the Yankees believed in the principle that, you know, a first baseman should be able to field his position.

Was that play anything like the one in Anaheim(?) where Betemit & Cano couldn’t decide who was to field the ball?

      I haven’t seen highlights of yesterday’s game.

MJ – that was Nady in RF.

Nope, Giambi went to his right to field the ball and dove for it. It nicked off the top of his glove and went into the grass in short RF, more or less halfway between 1st and 2nd. Cano was moving to his left so he was out of position when the ball squirted past Giambi. Nevertheless, he was no more than 5-10 feet from the ball and could’ve easily run to it to keep the runner from taking second. Instead, Cano stared at the ball, sort of walked in its general direction, and waited until Nady came in from RF to field it and throw it into Jeter covering the bag.

      Humiliating.

You know I watch second basemen on other teams like Pedrois on the Red Pox(sic) Hill (before he got injured) on the BlueBirds among others. These kids hustle and give up their bodies to get balls and in the case of Hill, his eagerness cost him the season due to injury. What do I see with Cano? He’s making this version of the Yankees look like the Tankees along with other things. This kid is sometimes so lax it’s annoying beyong belief. It would be cool to see him benched again to make him get it. Cano seems like such a cool likeable guy,BUT his play is really at a low level making him a goat.

BTW, Mike Francesa mentioned the Cano debacle on both versions of Miked Up that Girardi finally punished Cano. Good call by Mike amidst all the football talk.

Girardi is clueless. It took him until mid-September to deal withn Cano. Pathetic.
