Lester is also left handed. Which gives him a big advantage.
And Hughes is injury prone. Lester had cancer. Tiny difference

~~And no put away pitch to finish hitters.~~

Hence, the high pitch count, IMHO.

Jon Lester seemed to have no put away pitch, and he struggled with pitch counts too. And he didn't have the minor league results that Hughes had. And what does he look like now? One of the best pitchers in the league.

I wouldn't write off Hughes just yet.

Girardi sending melky a message by moving him to left for gardner. Or maybe he's just done with him for real?

Man, this game is moving WAY too fast...

You know you're in trouble when it's 9 PM and you're hearing GBA being played...

Steve, you were money on this if what your reporting is right, I cant see the game here in DC...but seriously, why is this guy so hyped, and if you know he cant do the stuff he is hyped to do why not trade him knowing your gonna get Santana. I have to believe cash just wanted to sign him as a free agent and was hoping the twins would hold on to him for the year. Maybe cash just sacrificed this trade so that he could instill a culture of not trading young talent. He had to know, did he not see this guy pitch, him and Ian. Who is reporting this stuff to him. Who are the scouts.

How many chances does a guy get? It's been 8 years for Cashman. 200 mill a yr for 8 years and he still can't put together a starting rotation of any note?

How many talented GM's wouldn't salivate at the chance to remake the Yankees with 100 mill off the top to play with?

~~How did Cashman look at Hughes and Kennedy and decide they were 12 game winners in the majors this year?~~

I'm still trying to figure out the pick-ups of Pavano and Igawa...maybe there's a clue in there that will help...

Four and out for Phil tonight.

Flash and Al are first in the apologists line: Saying that Hughes was too "amped up" and trying to make an impression, etc., and that impacted his ability to locate.

Gee, you don't think that Clayton Richard was amped for this game too? Yet, he located just fine through the first four...

Oh, well, at lease Phil will have time to shower early now, get dressed, and be home quickly after the game...and get plenty of rest to watch "The Office" on TV tomorrow...
