Cleveland will be the Yankees opponent for the first opener in the new Stadium – according to the Yankees 2009 schedule. (Hat tip to Pete Abe.) Let’s hope that Grady Sizemore doesn’t put one over the porch in right to start the game.

The schedule is pretty weird for two reasons:
1) We get to be trotted out as the home opener opponent in three consecutives series @Baltimore, @KC, and @Tampa to start the year before we get to come home; and
2) We have the most random 6-game west coast road trip starting one year from tomorrow (9/18-9/23/09). I can’t remember the last time a team from one coast or another had to do an opposite-coast swing that late in the season.
