Yanks: Torre & Clemens Were Not Snubbed Yanks Want Cashman, However Cashman Wants To Think About It

They’re even brawlin’ over the last home run ball.

Yankee fan Paul Russo says he is the rightful owner of the ball smacked by Jose Molina over the left-center field fence during the historic final game.

“I was a part of history, and it’s making me sick,” said Russo, 31, of Manhattan. The soaring shot landed on the netting that covers the seats in front of the famed Monument Park.

Another fan, identified only as Steve, grabbed the ball through the netting, but he let it go and it bounced down into Russo’s hands.

When security guards told Russo to give them the ball, he thought they were going to help him get the valuable piece of history authenticated by the Yanks. Instead, they gave it to “Steve.”

“I thought they were helping me out,” said Russo, who teaches at a Bronx elementary school. “The next thing I know, they handed it to the other guy.”

Russo hasn’t decided whether to take legal action. The Yanks declined to comment.

Betcha that the security guard and “Steve” have some sort of relationship. Otherwise, I could not see the guard getting involved in this situation. I mean…security guards at the Stadium will not even take your picture if you ask them to use your camera because the Yankees have drilled them to be afraid of lawsuits (should they break your camera). So, they should be smart enough not to get in the middle of something like this…unless there was some motive involved.

FWIW, I have heard reports of kindler and gentler behavior from security & police on Sunday.

During the broadcast they showed the guy, presumably “Steve” holding the ball through the netting.

Personally, if I had that ball, and security told me to drop it while I’m trying to retrieve it and some other guy picked it up and tried to claim it as his own, there’d be a pretty good chance that there would be a fight on his hands.
