And the Yanks STILL made the playoffs without Santanta. Mets STILL haven't made the playoffs with Santana in their rotation :D

[...] Now, who is CC Sabathia? Well, he’s not Johan Santana in terms of his career stats - that’s not even close. And, he doesn’t pitch like, say, Curt Schilling in the post-season - that’s for sure. [...]

Oh, wait, that was last year, with Santana, and the Cash-man let that one slide right by…
---------
And the Twins made the playoffs, the Mets missed the playoffs, and the Yanks offensive and defensive problems in 2008 probably make no difference if Santana's acquired...

Problem with the Yanks this year, wasn't the pitching.

Scout - this is where your GM has to earn his money. If there's nothing on the FA market that's worth the money, and you have the need, then you have to make a trade, one that maybe no one saw coming, where you give some assets to fill that need with someone stellar...

Is there another Santana type deal to be made this off-season? Cashman better hope so - because that might be his only chance to get that #1 ace, etc.

Steve:
OK, you want to pass on C.C. Who do you want as your number one starter, your ace, to take the team through the 2009 season and perhaps several more?

however, they seem to come up pretty short in the post season due to pitching.
--------
It's a combination of pitching, hitting and defense. And luck. 2004 was the perfect example of this. What are the odds that the greatest closer in history blows saves in back to back games? What are the odds that umpires overturn not one but two calls in a game (Bellhorn's HR, ARod's slap)?

And even if it could be traced back to the pitching, who saw Wang imploding twice in 2007? And the one well pitched game they got, they lost 2-1.

and the Yankees cannot afford any more $100+ million October chokers, can they?
----------
They can afford it...

Anyway, the price tag doesn't guarantee anything, as you can find players at all pay grades that have succeeded and failed in the postseason.

I don't know how what Steve said is cherry picking. Those are CC's stats in the post season...hard to call that cherry picking.

Anyways, the Yanks haven proved they can win in the regular season over the past several years; however, they seem to come up pretty short in the post season due to pitching. It's hard to deny that. If CC is the type of pitcher that pitches great in the regular season and can't cut it in the post-season then he's just another type of pitcher the Yankees have been signing the past few years.
