…doing this a little bit backwards?
The Steinbrenner Family owns the Yankees – and they all live down in Tampa, Florida.
And, Stuart Sternberg owns the Tampa Bay Rays – and he lives in Rye, New York.
Maybe baseball should come up with a rule like they have in New York for their cops and firemen? With them, if you work for New York City, you have to live in New York….
In any event, it’s interesting that the Steinbrenners like Tampa so much and that Sternberg has elected to not leave New York…at least to me.

Actually not Tampa or the Gulf side of the state. Most ex-NY’ers make up the Miami/Boca/Palm Beach part of the state on the south Atlantic side.
As to why Sternberg lives in NY, it’s because he used to be a bigshot at Goldman Sachs and because, as everyone knows, NY’s a helluva nicer place to live than Tampa.

The thing that KILLS me is that Sternberg was something like 43-years old, when he RETIRED, and *then* went out and BOUGHT A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM. Yikes, he must of made a sick amount of money at Goldman Sachs…

“His career soon soared as a managing director at Goldman Sachs and a partner at Spear, Leeds & Kellogg. He reportedly made between $300-million and $400-million when the firm was sold in September 2000 and has focused on private investing since then.”
I gotta give the man his props…
Retiring at 43? With that kind of scratch? Damn!
