Suzyn Sings Seaver Yankees Pitchers 2008 BABIP Splits
Oct 05

Feels like ‘77, ‘78 and ‘83 all over again…in the NLCS.

But, you won’t be seeing Bill Russell, Rick Monday, Dusty Baker, Burt Hooton, or Steve Yeager playing. And, there will be no sight of Mike Schmidt, Ron Reed, Tug McGraw, Garry Maddox, or Steve Carlton in action on the field.

Who will win this time?

Shoot, I’m beginning to think this is Joe Torre’s year…so, how can you not pick the Dodgers? And, if Mr. Torre makes it past this round, expect to see ol’ Joe cryin’ like it’s 1996 all over again…

How great would it be to see Dodgers-Red Sox and Manny rakes the ball the whole series and Torre gets another World Series title. Of course then Cashman and Girardi would get killed even more here in New York, but I would still be happy for Torre.

On a side note, I still can’t get used to seeing Mattingly in the dugout with a Dodgers jersey on. For some reason Torre doesn’t seem out of place, but with Mattingly it just seems weird.

Holy cow! It looks like Joe Torre can get past the first round! Are the Dodgers giving him any incentives for this?

  3. Lee Sinins Says:

As far as I’m concerned, the Dodgers were already mathematically eliminated from winning the World Championship and the NL title even before the postseason started.

The best the Dodgers can do is win 11 in the postseason, which will only give them 95. So, they can’t beat the Cubs’s total of 97.

The Phillies still need 3 to beat the Cubs for the NL title.

Did you say that when the Yanks won the AL East w/ 87 wins, while the White Sox won the Central w/ 95 and Oakland the West w/ 91?

The Yanks went on to win the WS. Should we give back the trophy to the Mets?

  5. Lee Sinins Says:

As far as I’m concerned, yes, the Mets were the 2000 World Champions.

Lee, you’ve got a rather remarkable perspective on things! And, if I may be permitted to pick your brain, I have a question about Joe Torre. It appears that he is, at the age of 68, the OLDEST current skipper in the major leagues. But when he started his managerial career with the Mets in May of 1977 he was, at the age of 37 years and 300 something days, the YOUNGEST manager in the bigs at the time (at least until Jeff Torborg took over the Indians 2 or 3 weeks later). So I was just wondering: Outside of Joe Torre, how many other major league managers started out their careers as the youngest manager in the majors and finished up as the oldest?

    Just curious.

The Mets were the Wild Card winner in 2000. Do you still want them to be the WS champs?

Lee adds postseason wins to regular season totals, so I guess he would.

Unless my math is off, the Angels are currently in position to be the WS champs (101), unless the Rays (99) or Red Sox (97) overtake them

I like Mike Kay BUT he was spinning the Yankee perspective on Torre and it was ridiculous. Yeah and I understand Blue Jays fans who complain how if they were in a different division they would make thebplayoffs and with that pitching win the WS once in awhile. Yeah, Hollywood would have come in 5th in the AL East, no doubt. Ned Colletti made adjustments to the Hollywooders like Blake , Manny and Maddux to get him over the top. As for Cashman was it the team or the manager? From the looks of it , it was both. No one can forget how the Yanks folded to Boston in that 2004 ACLS. Torre never told any of his players to bunt on Schilling? His bullpen management was terrible in that series , too. Then again, Cashman hasn’t made the appropriate changes to make this team keep up with the times.

Torre doesn’t have to call a play, the players could’ve bunted themselves. As it was, the only players that had experience bunting was Cairo & Jeter.

His bullpen management was terrible, how? He went for the kill in game 4 (Mo got the call in the 8th inning), and Rivera blew saves in games 4 & 5.

I never said they were World Series champions. I said they were World Champions.

I do not consider them to be the same thing. I don’t care about the former. I am interested in the latter.

Do I want them to be? No. But, if the standard was what I want, then I would just declare the Yankees to be World Champions every year. Next year, it would be time for the 107th consecutive World Championship.

    Here are my standings–

My standings for my championships (this is not for my world. This is the “real” world, using my method of determining champions)–

    AL CHAMPIONS
    Angels 101
    Rays 99
    Red Sox 97
    White Sox ELIMINATED

    NL CHAMPIONS
    Cubs 97
    Phillies 95
    Dodgers ELIMINATED

    WORLD CHAMPIONS
    Angels 101
    Rays 99
    Red Sox 97
    Phillies 95
    White Sox ELIMINATED
    Dodgers ELIMINATED

    I don’t know.

  14. Lee Sinins Says:

When I designed my system, I had no idea what the results were going to be. In other words, the system wasn’t designed in order to bring about any particular results.

But, if your standard is going to be what you want to be the case or what is beneficial to the Yankees, my system is preferable to the World Series winner system.

Under my system, the Yankees are 28 time World Champions.

Under my system, the Yankees’s most recent World Championship was in 2003.
