Brad Ausmus Comparing Danks, Pelfrey & Hughes
Oct 06

Doing some research into the recent ALDS game between the Angels and Red Sox – which the Angels won in 12 innings! – caused me to look back at Game 2 of the 1998 ALCS.

You remember that one, don’t you? It was the famous “Blauch Head” game where Chuck Knoblauch had a brain cramp that probably cost the Yankees the game.

Well, that game was played on October 7, 1998. That’s ten years ago from tomorrow.

Man, has it really been ten years? Where does the time go…

That game was quite annoying to watch. Amazing how the Halos can play like world beaters against the Yanks, yet look so hapless against the BoSox.

For a while there, I thought the Halos had money on the game, the way they were playing :)

    Really, it makes no sense.

When the Yankees play the Red Sox, through the recent years, for the most part, it’s 50-50 which each team beating the other as much as they lose to them.

Yet, the Angels own the Yankees and the Red Sox own the Angels.

So, either the Angels choke against the Sox or the Yankees choke against the Angels..or, maybe both?

I always thought about it like this

The Angels are built on great pitching and defense, with a little offense.

The Red Sox have great hitting and good pitching.

The Yankees have good hitting and crap(mostly) pitching.

The Red Sox hit the yankees and the Angels cause the yankees have shit pitching and the Angels can’t defend balls that land in the seats and gaps.

The Angels can’t hit anybody. SO thats why the Sox beat them.

The Yankees have good hitting that can hit good pitching which is why they split with the Sox (each team doesn’t necessarily have to hit every night). but they don’t have great hitting to hit great pitching, so they lose to the angels.
