Via the AP -
New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera had surgery Tuesday on his right shoulder and is expected to resume throwing in three months, a month ahead of spring training.
New York Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek operated at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Altchek also operated on catcher Jorge Posada’s shoulder last summer.
Altchek shaved a calcified joint on the top of Rivera’s shoulder.
Yeah, I know, it was somewhat of a minor procedure. But, as Archie Bunker once told Mike Stivic, about going in for a minor surgical procedure, “Geez, what happens if the doctor cuts the wrong string and your keester falls off?”
Score me as one Yankee fan who’s happy Mo came out of this with his keester intact.

God, but what a year Rivera had! 39-1 in save opportunities, an 0.67 WHIP, a 308 ERA+, a stike-out to walk ratio of nearly 13:1, and all while approaching the age of 39 with developing shoulder problems. All I can say is Dr. Altchek had better have the best medical malpractice insurance money can buy.
