Well, I really don't want D. Lowe. As a guy above said, he was OK in his last couple of years in the AL. Lowe is no better than a 4, and if I'm Brian Cashman i don't spend my money on an over-the-hill 4-type pitcher.

Well Cashman did have a chance to trade our home-grown injury-prone mediocrity (Hughes) for Santana and declined to do so. So it's not like there were only two options.

The real peril in not developing your own talent is potentially overspending on a fatass, a man made of glass, and a guy that was average (or just below average) in his last two years in the AL before re-inventing himself as a solid pitcher in the far weaker league.

Having said that, I don't think that getting two of those three means anything with respect to Pettitte or Moose. Wang, two free agents, Pettitte, Moose, and a competition between Hughes, Joba, Aceves, and Rasner for the last spot. As it is, we already know Joba's not going to be allowed more than 140-180 innings next year so having extra starters on the team already would mitigate the need for a Ponson-type signing.

Given his injury history, I'd say away from Burnett...

But Yankees players seem to love the idea of signing Burnett, a pitcher who has dominated them.
----------
*sigh*

And then they wonder why we don't take what they say seriously?

FWIW, given the criteria in a previous thread, I'd stay away from Burnett...
